The 'Now we know...' lessons

One of the concessions made by toyetic animated series like Masters of the Universe after the FTC essentially deregulated children's television (As it related to cartoon series connected with toys) was to include a "Moral lesson" coda to each episode. In some cases they tied into the story we'd just watched "In today's episode, Teela learned that...". In others, like G.I. Joe, they were more general and practical advice on how to deal with certain dangerous situations a child may find themselves in.

Today these moral lessons segments are both fondly remembered and widely parodied. I was curious if anyone here ever used any of the information they learned in the "Now we know..." segments in real life.

No moral advice will ever compare to Ram Man's warning against kids smacking their heads into things. Well, maybe the Sonic Says about not hitching a ride in a dryer, but that wasn't an action cartoon and came years after such concessions had to be made anyway.

I haven't seen that one. It's good advice, though. From a man who should know. I guess for legal purposes you've gotta sneak in a caveat from characters who display questionable behavior. I'm surprised they didn't have one where Stratos tells kids not to strap wings on their arms and try to fly.

They helped ingrain lessons into our heads; buckle up, look both ways before crossing the street, don't litter, just say no, don't take rides from strangers... for the most part it worked. Though, I did do some hitchhiking in my early twenties and got hit by a car crossing the street once.

Ouch. Sometimes mistakes are our best teachers though, eh?

I can't recall a specific instance where I used one of the "Now we know" lessons, but I'm sure they helped to reinforce the things I was learning at home and with the Scouts.

Off the top of my head the ones I can remember:

Don't take other peoples prescribed pills, especially your parents.
Stay away from down power lines, even if they don't appear to have an electric flow in them.
Use sunscreen at the beach.
How you stop a bloody nose.
