Fun little error / miss in The Dancing Men

First off, this is one of my favorite episodes. I like how the enigma of the cipher put a nice little challenge to Holmes, plus it was nice to see Watson step up a bit.

Anywho... I enjoy finding the little misses that get through editing: visible equipment or crew, continuity, etc., so when I saw a white bus/truck driving down the road, in the background of the darbyshire, just before the closing credits, I was pleasantly surprised, lol. This makes it especially fun since it is a period piece.

Does anyone else have any fun example of such misses?

In "The Norwood Builder," there's a boom very briefly visible at the top of the screen as Mrs. McFarlane crosses back to her little desk when she's about to tell Holmes about the portrait of her that Oldacre shot in his rage and returned to her on her wedding day.

Fun topic, Devils_Mentor!

Thank you for the tip, I will look for it next time I watch ;)

Glad you like the "game," if you will; lets hope it continues for a bit :)

Oh another Boo-Boo...

The Naval Treaty -- @ the 0:2:34 mark, just before Watson walks in through the door, the camera pans up from the table, laying there is an apple that has been bitten into. Clearly Holmes had not been in the process of eating said apple, but yet its meat had not browned as apple do, once they are bitten into.

In "The Bruce-Partington Plans", white lines painted on the road are visible through the back window of the hansom cab, but these were not invented until the 1920s.

Ha! Very nice catch!

I'm not at all good at catching this stuff!

But a fun fact on the same subject - that is to prevent bloopers....

I read in the Granada Sherlock Holmes Book (great book all about the series, filming locations, actors, etc.) that they really did go to a lot of trouble to make sure the apartments of Holmes and Watson were as close to period as possible.

The one place they caved was the mantle above the fireplace. Traditionally, a large mirror was hung over the mantle in Victorian residences, but to do that invited those boom mikes and camera views this thread has mentioned, so they opted instead for a large black and white print - and decided on that view of the Reichenbach Falls.

Nice info, thanks for sharing!

You're welcome!

I'm curious - has anyone ever tried going to the story, copying out the men, and actually writing down the code? You know, which man stood for what letter according to the story. I tried once when I was 12 or so and managed to find symbols for all but three or four letters I think. Z of course being one of them.

Nowadays of course you can just google "Dancing Men" and find the code all set up.

here is a fun site. Unfortunately I can't copy paste a Dancin Men Message here...

I know I'm late to the convo but I just started watching this series for the first time. Also in the Dancing Men, when the husband sneaks into the room to find his wife, the camera goes around to another door and follows him, and for a second you can see the shadow of the camera man or someone else on the door as the door opens so the camera can follow.
