Xtro trivia - did you know...
Kath Best (who plays the girl in the Volvo) was one of the singers in new wave one hit wonders The Regents.
A great band - where are they now????

I'm Harry and I directed this film over 20 years ago.
That sounds like I'm introducing myself at an alcoholics anonymous meeting.
I too wonder where Kath Best is these days. She was a talented young performer and I do hope that someone will know what has become of her.
Be good and don't watch disgusting stupid old movies like this anymore,

But hey I'm not good, so I'll keep watching your disgusting stupid old movie and in fact I'm going to buy the DVD, so HAH! :)
Assuming that you really are Davenport and not some crank, don't beat yourself up over this movie because as you know there are a lot of fans and that's for a reason. Yeah it certainly has a lot of flaws in the script and the whole 'rebirth' scene was excessive to say the least, but it was creepy, atmospheric, and had a really unique premise.
And while it's certainly no "Alien" personally I think its a worthwhile film for die-hard monster movie fans (with strong stomachs) like myself, in fact I'd love to see a remake based on it with a better script, special effects and an ending with a bit more of a surprise.
Heck, I might as well promote my website - http://www.andybob.com
Wow!
Posts that are recent on a movie that's as old as dirt! lol!
Fantastic!
I saw this movie when I was a kid and I was definitely wierded out. Very squeemish and it gave me that pee feeling in my shorts!
I just double checked Harry323-1 profile and recent posts. Hilarious! Hey guy, good to see you're still alive .. your presence is like pulling a relic out of my childhood man. I've seen almost every cult horror put out. I was the kind of kid that got his dad to rent every "Faces of Death" movie that was out at the time and Mondo Magic while eating Burger King. Yep, TMI? Perhaps but lets face it, most of us who liked this crap (Or made it) had a time we weren't right in the head.
Anyway, this was nostalgic. Thanks.
Hey
There is nothing "WRONG" with a good mood provoking and sometimes questionable content filled movie like Xtro. That movie will always be part of some deep seeded memories I had when I was a child.
There are some things that jog my subconscious memory like the time I popped my mothers friends sons blisters on a hot summer day that had puss oozing out his back and hearing him scream in pain when he turned over on his bed in the middle of the night. Or the other time when us kids got into the dresser drawers. On top of this dresser was a 20 inch TV. As the weight increased with every child the dresser began to tilt tell gravity gave way and the children who were on the bottom set of drawers were the most unfortunate ones. Or this one dippy song called "I just Died In your Arms Tonight" by "Cutting Crew" that's playing right now on my wife comp jogs the memory of it's debut when Hulk Hogan beat Andre the Giant in Wrestle Mania 4 (With a very questionable Body slam that had to be done twice cause Hogan could not actually lift the big guy, which in turn caused me to drop wrestling like a bad habit} back in like 1984-85ish.
Xtro was part of those deep seeded memories that I can forever associate with a certain time line in my life. When my sister first introduced it to my eyes saying "This Movie Is Freakin Weird"!
So Harry if this is truly "YOU" Harry. Director of the Cult Favorite Xtro, you should be proud of yourself cause I can't think of a more cultic movie that was so different than Xtro.
Hell. With the technology today maybe you can go to Miramax and ask for a budget to update it into a remake. Remakes are big this year and I am sure they will be for the years to come. Xtro would be a most welcome idea to this mix.
Cheers to you Harry Xtro man and thanks for the memories~!
Cheers }-<
I read an interview with Harry in Dark Side a few years ago. Seek it out. His comments about Jan-Michael Vincent are priceless.
Dick Laurent is dead...
"His comments about Jan-Michael Vincent are priceless."
Harry's interview on the Xtro DVD (particularly the discussion of Jan-Micheal Vincent) is one of the funniest 'special features' that I've ever seen :). Not a bad movie either, and about as bizarre as I remember from seeing it as a kid... definitely one of the classics of cheap 80s horror movies.
"in fact I'd love to see a remake based on it with a better script, special effects and an ending with a bit more of a surprise."
I was thinking that myself: the basic premise of the guy kidnapped by aliens coming back to Earth as something other than human in order to take his son away is a really good idea, and I think there's a lot of potential that they obviously didn't have the time or money to exploit. With the kind of effects you can do for next to nothing on a PC these days it could probably be made fairly cheaply too.
"Be good and don't watch disgusting stupid old movies like this anymore"
The sad thing is, after watching your 'Xtro' interview again I'm almost tempted to buy 'Xtro 2' just to see how bad it really is.
Almost :).
