Some thoughts on X-tro Xtro.

Man it is funny, listening to Harry trash his films. I liked Xtro though, just watched it. "well what have I done, I trashed jan michael vincent..... yeah, is he still alive?". BTW isn't the alternate ending 1 the exact same ending as in the movie, I believe I might have heard some sound changes but the video is exactly the same.
I read people ask about the panther, I saw toy clown on the bar, and the panther in his cage, a Flash and the clown is life size, then it shows the Panther is out of his cage, then he too comes to life the same as the clown, all from the circus.
I think my fav shot in the film was when the couple was driving their car at the beginning and you see the alien on the side of the road, just before the car supposedly hits you see him take a step back, I though that was a cool shot.

BTW the image DVD is good but why on earth use that crappy cover art. The original with Tony and the alien (showing large eyes and teeth) behind him, and the space ship in the sky with the tag "when Tony grows up he's going to be just like Daddy", was soooo much cooler, when I got the DVD I was thinking is this the same movie, it's looks like some kinda Terminator on the cover, a metalliac robot of somekind. I remember the original cover art from when I was a kid on VHS in the stores.
You wonder about things when watching this movie, like is the cottage where he impregnates the girl the original cottage they go back too? I read somewhere that she could have just been a squater, but if it was the same cottage where did the womans body, the alien leftovers, etc. dissapear too? Also I heard the lead woman say "someone has been here, shall I call the police".
The title music at the opening credits was cool, very moody and set the tone. There wasn't any other music in the film as good as the opening.

I loved the alien at the beginning, it was very creepy the was it was designed, on all fours with the joints turned around. Too bad there wasn't more of it.

Dear Everybody,
I just want to repeat what I already mentioned earlier: it is a very imaginative film.

"ET" is no contest for this excellent movie, well, in my humble opinion, of course. Come on, people, do you really think that nice-looking aliens are visiting us to hush our babies and to help us to pay the bills? "Xtro" smashes the "friendly sissy-pissy" idea to atoms. Deep thanks to the director.

This movie is not an "Alien" clone. Did anybody see a clown in "Alien", or a killer toy tank, or a murderous toy soldier that kills (why not call it a "Terminator" clone - cf. the dates when the movies were done, by the way), or a birth of an adult (let's call it a "Warlock" clone), or an altered human breathing deadly gas and eating snake eggs (can't find a proper parent for this clone), or an extraterrestrial whose shriek makes one's ears bleed (can it be a clone of anything)? The only parallels that seem to be clearly seen are some sort of hatching eggs that contain a killing substance inside and the way of penetration of the extraterrestrial thing into human body (via mouth). There was also some sort of acid.

Its quality is of the same level as "Alien" though. This is my point.

Andrei

PS I have a German double-pack DVD edition with 3 versions of the movie and I was never sorry that I had paid those 35 dollars.

Its a true psychedelic *beep* of a film! Very original, lacking in logic and production value, but so weird! I have the German Double-pack dvd and the fantastic re-mastered version from Image (region 1) which has the priceless interview with Mr Davenport (director).
