Guy on YouTube passing a Photo from this movie as skinwalker

I finally discovered this creepy film after constant searches and had no luck,I remember seeing a 3 second clip on YouTube with the alien on the side of the road and had been searching for it ever since.
The other day I came across another video of a man claiming that the alien on the road was a series of photos taken by him on one of his walks and said it was a skin-walker.
This annoyed me as I knew it was from a film and this guy was using it too get a bit of fame. I finally found out about this movie through someone tweeting about it and correcting the news report.
Has there ever been other cases where someone has done something similar by lying about a lesser known movie and claiming it was their finding ( sorry can't word the question right.)
