Trying to cash in on E.T. craze

the video rental shop tried to sell Xtro as the sequel to ET, lol. thought he was ET's brother back then.

I remember. The video cover used to have a poster similar to E.T (with the touching fingers). The difference was blood dripping from between the fingers.
Although i cannot find any trace of that particular poster to this day.

OR it may have been directed at audiences who didn't like E.T's approach towards aliens - showing them as friendly, kind-hearted creatures.

The poster you are talking about is for Night Fright aka The Extra-Terrestrial Nastie. Still it would do a nice poster for Xtro.

Oh WOW! You have no idea how long I've been searching for this film. I've been telling people about that poster for years and always remembered the title as being similar to E.T. I was told it was XTRO... which explains why I still couldn't find it.
Thank you maldor_industrial !

Original theatrical poster which did reference the popularity of E.T. in the tagline.

How did I find out I didn't pass my piss test?
When they said "Urine big trouble".

I remember seeing both Xtro and E.T.n. (The Extra-Terrestrial Nastie) in my local video shop during the 80s. I rented out Xtro and quite enjoyed its weirdness, but I was told by a school friend to avoid E.T.n. as it was complete tripe, despite having a cool video cover and tagline - 'What's 12ft tall and eats people'.
