Here in my country, there was a time (back in the day), where "punks" loves this movie. I never really liked it. Sexist, TV-dumbheads, that's ain't punk for me at all. But I don't know how it worked for northamericans in the 80's. I was a teenager in the 90's, in a country nobody knows nor cares, trying to get democracy after 17 years of right wing military dictatorship (thanks to Nixon and the CIA), so my "early punk years" were very different. We didn't watch TV (didn't trust them), we were trying to DO stuff, even if it was playing in a band, writing fanzines, whatever. I remember the first "Okupa" here... there was mainly glue-sniffers kids, but then punks started to taking action, they expulse the dangerous rapist and drug dealers, and started to create spaces, where we share cultural stuff, even the screening of this film on vhs...
I remember we used to drink a LOT of beer, we do smoked pot. Some kids used to drink heavy liquor and used other drugs. There is no heroin here in my country. Cocaine is expensive, so when I was very young, it wasn't an every day option.
But we have our ideals, we wanted to do so much stuff!
Now I work as an independent writer for on-line magazines, reviewing concerts from international rock n' roll and indie rock band that plays in my country, but also promoting female punk rock from here. I quit all those jobs that were sucking my soul (call-centers, full time saleswoman at clothing shops), fortunately I have no children. I work freelance as filmmaker advisor (yeah, that's what I decided to study, because I had good grades at the crappy public school I went) and also work under commission as a seamstress, fashion patterns creation and sometimes, I sell my own designs. DIY IS REAL! I don't play the bass guitar any more, but I will do it, as soon as I'll be able to buy me a good bass (my former-fiance exchange my old bass and amp for drugs... nice punk rocker that bastard!)
Please excuse my terrible redaction, english is not my native language.
