Touchscreen in 1983?

When david goes to the bathroom his chick touches the screen, surely this is an oversight by the director as touchscreens didnt get invented till 1985

Others have already replied, but I want to reply just to tell an anecdote.

There was an old TV show that showed how to make music using a computer and a synthesizer. They used a light pen to select things on the screen (what a stupid invention, typing and using a mouse is much faster and easier on the hand muscles than having to wave a pen in the air against the screen all the time - how can you sit in a relaxing position and do that?).

Of course, because this was a youtube video, multiple commenters said 'time machine confirmed, a touch screen in 1983' (or whatever year it was).

Sometimes it's frustrating to not have a youtube account; I would so much like to scream to those amoebas about LIGHT PENS, for crying out loud.

How did they think the NES Duck Hunt with light gun worked? Did they really think that was the first time a similar technology was employed?

Anyways, it's not a touch screen, as the others have mentioned - she was just touching the screen out of a feeling of being mesmerized - thinking that computers are somehow magical.

"Ooh, things that I don't understand are happening, it must be magic.. maybe if I touch the screen, a portal to Narnia will open"-type of thing. So she reaches out and touches and caresses the monitor.

You are also wrong about 1985.

According to Wikipedia:

"The application of touch technology for air traffic control was described in an article published in 1968"

" Frank Beck and Bent Stumpe, engineers from CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), developed a transparent touchscreen in the early 1970s"

There are many 'amazing' technologies, that people don't realize have existed MUCH longer than they think. Someone was amazed to learn that electric violins existed in the seventies, for example. That individual almost refused to believe it.

Touchscreens seem like 'very modern' tech, and so does 'mouse' and 'graphical user interface' (since DOS was used for so long) - but when you research it..

(STUPID charlimitations, !@€#%&!*!)

..you realize that they were actually developed much earlier.

Graphical User Interface, for example, already existed in the early seventies. Masses didn't get to use them until around 1995, when Windows 95 was published. More intelligent people had Amigas that did it a decade earlier, and with better multitasking and user-friendliness..

A little 10-second research won't hurt to do before starting to talk about touchscreens or GUIs or any other 'amazing' tech that was actually invented in the seventies, and not 2000s.

I hope to God that this movie never gets remade! I can just imagine the use of smartphones and tablets. Geez!
