Best of 1983

I've got an ongoing blog project in which I'm watching the top 50 films of the 1983 box office and I've just reached No. 22 on that list, UNCOMMON VALOR. As I was just a baby when this was released, I had honestly never heard of the film until this project and was amazed that such a big hit is never really spoken about much today.

Anyone have any memories of seeing the film back in its initial release in '83? I'd love to hear what your reactions were at the time, either here or at my blog below.

hell yeah! i was 8yrs old in 1983, my stepbrothers were 9 & 11. i still remember my dad waking us up on a saturday morning to go see an 11am showing of this at the theater. at that time, all we did was wear fatigues and play army...constantly. i have to say, first blood had a slightly bigger impact on us but we loved this film almost as much, and still do to this day. it's rare that i encounter people my age that have actually seen, or much less heard of this film.

I never saw this in the cinemas but it was popular on video and it was shown regularly on tv a few years later.

It's a great film... long forgotten by most, but great nonetheless. One of my personal favorites of all time. Not surprisingly, John Milius was behind it... just as he was Red Dawn, Conan and Big Wednesday.
