I understand this is the Twilight Zone but this makes no sense.

Why would Dan Aykroyd's character in the prologue bother killing his friend in the car? He even said that it would "only take a few seconds". So why in the world would he murder his friend? I understand this is the Twilight Zone but even Serling's episodes had many sense or reasoning into them, in a world of mystery. If that's an oxymoron somehow.

Unless the Passenger was just a drifter or someone the Driver hitched up to take him to a certain destination. But they seemed like friends none the less.

Your second assumption that he's a drifter seems to be what's implied. At least, that's how I always took it...

What makes you think they're friends? They don't talk of any shared history. They're getting along fine but my take on it was always that Arkroyd had hitched a ride and they had probably been driving for hours. Come to think of it, he would hardly have been a friend to the driver for years, he was some sort of demon!!!!!!! LOL makes your post even more bizarre.

They aren't friends. When the radio stops working one of them says, "we'll just have to talk now," and Albert Brooks says, "We already talked." Dan Akroyd responds, "Right, I know where you're from."

as a kid I thought they were supposed to be friends, but no, Dan Aykroyd is supposed to be a hitchhiker that he picked up

Yeah, and this movie is from the early '80s.

Very good, Louis. Short, but pointless.

Same - from the first time I saw it when it came out, I thought Dan was scabbing a ride. They even talk about having done a lot of introductory chit chat - though a little one-sided, as Dan's character says something like, 'Well, I know everything about YOU,' implying he'd been a bit evasive himself.

Please do not make negative comments about a film YOU NEVER SAW. It makes you look stupid.
