I just watched it again for the first time since the theaters back in the early 1980s, and the grown man version of the boy was missing at the end. Nurses were asking who had seen him and where could he be, so I'm guessing the boy got to stay a boy.
The rest, while loving the opportunity, quickly learned (for various reasons) what Mr. Bloom already had decided, that it is better to be your correct, current age with a young mind.
Apparently, the one who got to stay a boy was quite happy getting to be a child again, and was okay with the bittersweet downsides of it that had frightened the others back to elderly age. And they were happy going back to reminiscing about their youth with their beautiful new perspective of young minds, courtesy of Mr. Bloom.
