Dan Aykroyd is clearly a miscast
his existence makes the film even worse
shareI couldn't disagree with you more. He's a hoot as the 'mystery passenger' and the ambulance driver. At least he wasn't asked to imitate Rod Serling as he had done on an old Saturday Night Live episode.
shareI agree you needed a person who you would not expect to do that be a monster . It throws you off because dan is a comic etc
Example if you had like vincent price in the role or something you would be expecting something bad to happen at any moment.
So its why someone like dan is a good choice because first time i saw it i was not expecting something like that if anything dan to be the victim
I'm not a great fan of the anthology, but I thought the prologue worked quite well because of Dan Aykroyd playing that character.
shareNup - like others have said, he made the initial scare unexpected and was good at the end, as a tie-up character.
There are plenty of other things that actually hindered the film.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings.
His casting was completely appropriate considering his personal passion and interest towards the paranormal and the fact that he's *beep* Dan Akroyd, the man is a legend.

Not sure why Spielberg used him so much early in his career. 1941, Twilight Zone: The Movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, also they're both in The Blues Brothers.
shareJust watched it for the 4th of July and Aykroyd is awesome. As all have said, he is the reason it is a surprise - great little scene.
