Why didn't they cancel the movie out of respect?

I'm just curious why they actually released it. I would drop the entire project out of respect because of that accident, including all the other segments.

I'm also surprised they left Landis' segment in - there was no need to cancel the whole movie but I thought they might have replaced the first segment with something else, it's a little sad and creepy knowing that you're basically seeing the last week of Vic Morrows life on screen

It was tragic and particularly gruesome and shocking, but there have been many people who have died while filming movies and the movies still come out. For instance, a cameraman was killed while filming The Dark Knight and it made headlines and the movie still came out. Yes, Vic's death was shocking because he was the star of the movie and it included two children who never should have been there, but that doesn't make stuntmen and others who die while filming any less sad.

Over the years several movie stuntmen have lost their lives.

One stuntman was killed while filming xXx.

Vic Morrows death was tragic but I don't think it's disrespectful to release a movie after a cast member dies. Even if it happened on the set. As long as they don't show the actual death itself (which this movie didn't), I don't see why it would be offensive to anyone. I actually think it would be a waste not to show the movie and that actors' final performance.
