taking briefcase twice.

In the room Jamie has Beeks put her bag up top, Dan takes it leaves and gives it to Eddie. Why not just leave then. They all in the room Jamie has Beek get her bag down, he notices them switching it.I do not understand why you had to switch it twice or who in there right mind would think Beeks would not recognize them.

Well, they had to switch the crop report. There might have been other things in the briefcase they didn't know about. Also, the number combination on the lock would be different, it might not even be the same kind of briefcase. So it was the only way that Beeks would still deliver the false crop report to the Duke brothers.

Plus, Louis and Billy Ray didn't know what the crop report said up to that point, so Louis would have to replace the report with the proper opposite report and make sure Beeks took that to the Dukes. He probably concocted two reports to cover both potential scenarios.

I would think a bigger question is who delivered the real report to the Dept. of Agriculture. It wasn't Beeks, the assigned courier. If someone else shows up or the report just kinda arrives, there'd have to be serious questions about its validity.

Yeah, yeah, takin' it far too seriously, but, hey, aren't all of the questions about "what was the ending?"

As that great philosopher Bugs Bunny said, "Something tells me I shoulda stood in bed."

reply

Beeks delivered the real report to the department of agriculture earlier when they saw him on tv.

reply

Yeah. That puzzled me a while too.
But I figured that partly they had to switch the case to get the report. He gets a fake case so he wouldnt miss it.

After they have opened his case and swapped the report. He would still need his case back to get his things as well as the fake report.
Since they dont know in advance what the report will say nor what else he might have. They had to switch back. So basicly first they switch his case to get the report and for Beeks to have a case he belives is his.
Then they switch the report with a prefabricated that will say the opposite of the actual report. Then he gets back his own case. Except ofcourse he discovers it.

Though it would have been ALOT easier and harder to detect if Beeks had merely sent a telegram saying Either positive, negative or normal. As the harvest would get better than expected, worse than expected or same as expected. This would have been enough for the Dukes to know how to act. Instead they have him deliver the actual copy of the report which makes it dangerous.

reply

Maybe the Dukes didn't want to take any chances and wanted to see the actual report with their own eyes.
But apparently it was a copy of the actual report, as Beeks was shown delivering it to the USDA.

reply

The first switch was to take out Beeks' briefcase (with good report).

The second switch was to put Beeks' briefcase back (with false report).

reply

Only problem is that Beek wouldn't be able to send it back because he was currently being raped by a gorilla.

I guess Eddie Murphy's character could have brought it to the office and just passed it off as normal.

reply

Well, that happened due to Beeks seeing them switch it back and it starts another chain in motion. If Beeks had not seen it, he would've delivered the Dukes the fake crop report instead of Billy Ray.

He has to switch the briefcases because they need to take it into the bathroom to see which report he has. When they see which report it is, they switch it with the opposite report they have and put it in the briefcase. The idea then was to give back Beeks his briefcase and he will give the wrong report to the Dukes, but Beeks saw them switch it the second time so he knew something was up. Now after the good fortune with the gorilla stuff, Beeks is out of the picture so Billy Ray, in disguise, gives the Dukes the fake report.
