1983 - a good year for films
Every year in the 80s was better than any year for films more recently.
In 1983 alone we had:
Trading Places
Return of the Jedi
Wargames
Risky Business
The Big Chill
Just saying.

Don't forget Scarface, The Day After and The Outsiders

I can't believe you forgot Doctor Detroit and D.C. Cab!
shareNot really - it only had one true masterpiece in Scarface.
"facts are stupid things" - Ronald Reagan
I agree with the 'not really', though Videodrome! In hindsight, it's a downright masterful film and an all-time horror masterpiece. Well ahead even of Scarface as far as I'm concerned.
shareScarface might be "edgier", but it's no where near a masterpiece.
"Trading Places," "Risky Business," "The Right Stuff," "Vacation," "Terms of Endearment," "A Christmas Story," "The Big Chill," "Silkwood," "Fanny and Alexander," "Local Hero," "Tender Mercies," "The Meaning of Life" are all classics.
1983 was a damn amazing year for good films.
~ I'm a 21st century man and I don't wanna be here.
Risky Bussiness was terrible...
