Was Coleman a perv?

When he walked in on Louis and Penelope making out and she was in her underwear, shouldn't he have apologized and left forthwith? Instead he just stood and stared.

reply

You must be gay.

No dude would have turned away.

reply

Ironically, Denhom Elliot in real life was gay. That aside, regardless of his sexuality, a decent butler would politely withdraw.

reply

No, he was not gay. He was bisexual.

Meh!

reply

better question. why didn't they lock the door?

LOL! Maybe they (both?) wanted Coleman to join in?
If she gets pregnant they could say......wait for it.......

THE BUTLER DID IT!

Thank-you! Thank-you! I'll be here all week! Try the veal. And tip your waitress!

And tip your waitress!

They've been good to you; you be good to them.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

reply

Hilarious!!!!!!!

reply

No. It was just a excuse to show a beautiful woman in her underwear during the first third of the movie. Remember 22 minutes later Jamie Lee Curtis was naked as well.

reply

I saw a documentary on butlers in England and that's what they're trained to do...one segment was them helping to dress the master or mistress...they never look at them...like Coleman's stare...he really wasn't looking at them but fixated on something...

reply

Actually, Louis quickly stepped in front of Penelope to hide her. I do agree with the person who said, they should have locked the door. They were planning to have sex which is why they got rid of him in the first place after dinner.

reply

Coleman was gay. He was checking out Louis junk.

reply

I think Coleman found both Louis and Penelope terribly dull and unappealing.

To back out would suggest he saw something. To stay would suggest he didn't see anything and everything is normal. Damn fine butler if you ask me.

I think you're right. The etiquette expert on Downton Abbey was asked why the maids don't knock when they go into the bedrooms and he said they wouldn't because that would be suggesting their lord and ladyships were up to no good.

So if the couple were having sex, the maid would ignore it and carry on silently laying the fire or whatever, unless asked to leave. Presumably the couple would carry on or ask her to join in.

Downton is pretty silly but I think that might be true.

reply

laying the fire or whatever

Oh, is that what they call it now?

reply

If I remember correctly, Coleman just got the call from The Dukes telling him what was going to happen. So he goes to check up on Winthorpe for the last time...that's how I took it...kinda like a goodbye.

reply

Oh, that's a good way to look at it. The scene, I mean.
