Adults bike?!

What was with the 1980's and adults biking? Not only did they bike, but they biked in non-spandex pants. They biked in NORMAL plain clothes! WTF?!

I noticed this oddity on this show and in the opening to "Poltergeist." Is it because in the 1980's people were still getting over the petrol crisis of the 1970's?

It just seems ultra-rare today to see a middle-aged adult bike casually. Like I said, if adults do bike, they take it waaaaaay to far with the skin-tight clothes when they really shouldn't even consider wearing clothes that tight.

I'm a biker and there has been a recent expansion of biking to incorporate more causal bikers. I often see people biking wearing normal clothes and sometimes not even wearing a helmet.

Your use of the word petrol makes me think that you aren't American. In the 80's biking as a serious sport was not very large in the US. Thus, the people biking didn't have as much access to activity-specific clothing and accessories. Of course, in Europe, biking has been serious business for some time.
