I personally thought the movie was ridiculous in the way it dictated emotions to the viewer -- the sombre music, pretentious dialog and preposterous "diary entries" -- come on! This is one of the most manipulative (and inept at its own manipulativeness) movies ever made!

Of course it did,the film was about a nuclear war through the eyes of a mother of a family and besides every film dictates emtion to some degree.
It's also a safe bet that if you are a parent and lose every single member of your family via a nuclear conflict you had no say in....you are going to feel very similer emtions to the woman in the film.
