scrapyard fight best in all superman films

I love that scene as does everyone else hats off to christopher reeve for that scene i only watch this one from the moment he turns bad to the bit where clarke wins and opens the shirt and the theme tune sets in.that for me is the number one superman moment

This could have done without the comedy ad the robot and richard prior was at his
most famous i guess at this time so loads of scenes with him but was not funny at all . Richard leseter did a bad job of this prob because his knowledge of superman's universe i.e the comics etc was so limited but he directed that great scene so not all bad.

This was, indeed, the highlight of SIII. But the showdown between Superman & the villains in SII kept you on the edge of your seats as well

Best scene of the film (easily) and one of the greatest scenes in the history of the entire series of Superman films.

Just my $0.02.

reply

The fact that Reeve played two completely different people with two completely different personalities seals the deal on him being the best Superman/ClarkKent.

reply

No argument here.

isnt he playing 3 different people at that point?

reply

It's definitely one of the highlights of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, especially the end of the fight where good superman wins and that music kicks in as he opens his shirt up to show the Superman costume. However, I personally thought the Superman Vs Nuclear Man fight in the fourth was more exciting.

May The Schwartz Be With You

reply

Agree. My favourite scene.

reply

Superman vs. Nuclear Man was corny and predictable. Superman vs. Clark Kent is an all around epic for the simple fact that it came as a shock to the audience back in '83 because it was original and no one predicted it and just the whole concept was brilliant and is also timeless to this day. Chris Reeve played 3 different personalities in this film, so that added an extra acting dimension to his talent.

reply

Awful scene, despite great acting from Reeve and of course the emotion you feel when he opens his shirt...the things they did in this fight were utterly stupid. Throwing tyres around? Really? You've got super powers and you're just going to stand there letting tyre after tyre fall on you? Ridiculous. The stunts were just terrible, what a waste of a movie.

reply

@DMB_Lover The scene has stupid stuff in it, but I still love it. The highlight of any Superman movie I've seen.

reply

A classic moment in any superhero film.

I just rewatched this again since I saw it as a kid and I agree. I always loved this scene as as kid and surprised that I still love it now!

One thing though, Superman's strength is really inconsistent here. He can move tectonic plates, the moon, an island yet here Clark has trouble preventing himself from getting crushed by a garbage compactor. Even if his strength was divided in 2, a guy with half the strength of someone who can move the moon should be a lot stronger than that.

reply

Both Superman and Clark Kent have a shift in powers during various parts of the fight.

reply

The only downer in the scene...is how silly the whole tire throwing is. For starters, he wastes time throwing a bunch of tires around a guy with strength enough to move a moon. Also, there’s no way they’d all fall nicely and evenly down on Bad Superman like that. Plus, Bad Superman just stands there and cooperates...as the tires fall down over him?? That scene could and should have been thought out and choreographed a lot better. The concept of a good vs evil Superman fighting each other was a good one. But the execution of said fight was poor.

reply

there alwaya gonna be problem showing the strength of a guy with the strength to move a moon,
especially when fighting another such guy.

Remember he lifted california up that time?
he was really lucky finding a solid handhold to lift on given the mass of Califrnia vs the size of his hands.

reply

Agreed

reply

I disagree and in my opinion you may be over thinking this. Clark Kent still has some powers so throwing tires on Superman perfectly is expected. Clark Kent also cant be harmed or killed by normal destructive measures as seen by Superman's efforts. Superman not doing anything when Clark tossed the tires over him was amusement to him, so he sort of smirks and pops them off easily. Superman is cocky here and its clear throughout the fight in some of the dialogue earlier. Pay very close attention to this sequence. The fight is brilliant because not only is there the shifting of powers but also there's a degree of uncertainty between them as the battle goes on.

reply

Yea the junkyard fight is so so good to me & yea the evil Superman is really cocky to Clark Kent because he has the main super powers & thinks Clark can't beat him like I said Clark should've avoided him from the start but I understand now that he can't.

reply

I still say the fight on the moon with Nuclear Man is the best Superman scene ever

reply

Um...the moon fight was okay but it wasn't as intense as the Clark Superman fighting was u know. Superman was really scary when he's bad too. I remember having goosebumps on the junkyard scene so scared Clark will lose & probably die. So glad that didn't happen ☺

reply

Oh my, you actually thought Superman was going to die in that movie? Heroes dying in movies is a new concept but in the 80s, the hero just didn't die in his own movies

reply

Now I know that but I was little kid so I didn't know any better u know lol.
