Is Stephanie mentioned in this one???
Do they explain what happened to Stephanie or even mention her. I read at one point they were interested in having Karen Lynn Gorney return and reprise her role...

shareNo, not one word was ever said. From what I remember, nothing was ever said about any of the Fever characters here. Except Tony's mom, of course. His dad was never mentioned, in fact, he only gave her one ticket to Satan's Alley.
BRING OUT SEASON THREE OF "ONCE AND AGAIN" ON DVD!
I don't know exactly why, but I've always had the feeling that Tony's dad had passed away by that point, that his mom was now alone in that old house.
During at the end when the audience is applauding like crazy, I tend to think that the young lady next to his mom is his younger sister. I'll have to watch it again, but it seems likes she makes eye contact with Tony's mom, and they are both so excited and happy for him...
Many, many versions and rewrites were done concerning this film. I spoke w/Paul Pape(Double J from SNF) in 1980,81(?) and he had said that he had recieved several scripts himself. In the beginning it picked up right after SNF,it had Tony in a non-dance role, kind of a neighborhood nice guy doing the right thing. Then the rewrites started and time passed. Finally Nik Cohn's screenplay was ready and so was Travolta. Then Stallone got to it,and rewrote it further. Tony's father was still in the movie, till the actor wanted more money and better billing, and at the last minute was cut out by Stallone. I am also very curious about the girl sitting next to his mom at the show. She could very well be his younger sister.......In the Cohn screenplay,Tony only got to be part of the chorus, not the star, just FYI.

Forget Stephanie, where was Tony? I didn't see him in this flick. I saw Travolta, but no Manero (other than the accent). The closing "strut" really sealed it ... Tony didn't purposely STATE he was going to "strut." He just did it. Travolta announcing he was going to strut was basically an announcement that he was going to imitate or even parody his Manero role.
Sort of like how Marlon Brando parodied his earlier "Godfather" role in "The Freshman."
Speaking of which, I also didn't see Michael Corleone in "The Godfather part III." Pacino's role was a lot more reminiscent of Big Boy from "Dick Tracy."
Yes it was definitely a difference. Coming of age in the Flash Dance/Fame era, I didn't feel a sense of lost with the movie. I actually thought Tony was equally controversial, more anal, and less personable.
This movie makes me cringe beyond belief. I will never and can never forgive Stallone for cheapening the story of Tony Manero. I'm not real happy with Travolta going along with it but ... well, he will always be Tony to me. ;-)
As great as "Saturday Night Fever" is... "Staying Alive" is equally as lame.
Karen Lynn Gorney was all set to reprise her role as Stephanie, then they decided not to hire her afterall. Donna Pescow filmed scenes with Travolta. He goes to visit her in the old neighborhood. She's married & has kids. Unfortunately, those scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. (I got the feeling the father had passed away too).

Brilliant, directing decisions by Stallone! Those things would've been so much better for the movie, what was the matter with him??
