30 years

Can you believe it has been 3 decades since SA released in 1983.

reply

I still love the movie. I saw it on opening day in July of 1983.

I can't believe it's 30 years ago, I can remember buying the soundtrack on cassette and playing it so loud while driving my 1979 Pontiac Firebird, that I didn't hear an ambulance go by me, and I was pulled over and given a ticket for not getting out of the way in time, I had the song far from over jamming on my Jensen's, man am I dating myself as a middle age man lol

Staying Alive is one of those beautiful time capsule films that represent the 80's perfectly, when you tell people that you love the film they usually think you're talking about Saturday Night Fever, when you explain that you like this one to they think you're crazy. I like the film because am huge Bee Gees fans and the music in this one is great, the only complaint I have is that they should have brought back some of the characters from Saturday Night Fever. Is the film really good, no, the reason I love it is it's just a stupid fun movie and you get to see Tony Manero again. Theres one other film that I feel the same way, it's also a guilty pleasure movie like Staying Alive. and that's Patrick Swayze's Road House. Dumb movie but fun to watch.

Yo! Coppola! I remember you. You still have that Hein Gericke jacket from Staying Alive and Rocky III?

reply

Yo Balboa!

No, I only have my original Sergio Valente replica from 1983.
I'm still traing hard and I outgrew the Gericke. I'll be 50 in December and I'm in better shape than I was in 1983.
I owe a lot to SA, Travolta and Stallone for that. That's part of the reason I love this movie!

Yo Coppola

I have that same birthday coming up in December, you sure we aren't lost brothers lol

I have a very rare Staying Alive poster, it's huge, 35X43, on the very bottom it's says, Opens Friday, July 15th at ZIEGFELD and at Theatres in New Jersey, Connecticut and on Long Island.
I also have the lobby cards. Do you have the Starlog Magazine for Staying Alive? It has a lot of very cool behind the scenes and make of photographs.

reply

Hey bud, did you see it at the Ziegfield? I have the clippings form the NYTimes advertising it there in 70mm. I would have loved to see it there in 83.

Yes, I have the Starlog mag and some other stuff regarding SA. There are trailers on YouTube showing the original previews before the opening featuring many cut scenes and retakes on many scenes.

I'd love to see the poster that you have, email me if you could..
[email protected] thanks!

I will send you pics of the poster in a couple of days.

Did you know that the actor that played the father in Saturday Night Fever, Val Bisoglio was suppose to be in Staying Alive and the part was already written in the script, but he wanted to much money so they had write him out, to bad, I wonder what the father would have done in the sequel, kind of reminds be of Godfather III, and Robert Duvall not being in the film because they didn't even want to pay him half of what Al Pacino got.

I don't think SA is on blu ray, but I have Saturday Night Fever Special Edition DVD, am sure you have it, the reason am bringing it up is that I wish Staying Alive had a special edition dvd with all the great features that are on the SNF dvd. I love to hear a commentary track with Stallone and Travolta about the making of each scene and Stallone's process in transforming Travolta's physique.
