this almost ruined the movie for me!

ok so, tonight i finally watched staying alive for the first time. throughout i kept an open mind.. i had checked IMDB before watching so i knew a lot of people werent fond of it but i wanted to get my own opinion. i knew it wasnt going to be saturday night fever by any means.
as expected there were a couple cheesy parts throughout but nothing too bad. i actually was able to get into it and dig it for what is was, i did however fee like it wasnt a sequal and just another dance movie because the character of tony was written so differently than in snf, even though the point was that he changed he was just a different character.

OK BUT TO GET TO MY POINT..
i had watched the whole movie, finding it wasnt all that bad until.... THE STRUT..

that was a bit much. that was overkill on the cheese factor. i dont care if it was a throw back to snf. sly should have left that one out, left good enough alone.

and the other cheesy things i thought were when they went out of the way to make obvious references to snf. or who he "use to be" blahblah and how hes changed.. it was too forced.

That was the only good PART of the entire flick!

AGREE! I love Saturday Night Fever, but Staying Alive just doesn't have the same appeal, imo. It lacks the disco soundtrack which is a HUGE negative, but I don't know why, I've never liked it as much as the first. I think they waited too long for the sequel.

the fact that it lacks a disco soundtrack is a huge plus for me 😀

I hated Jaws, it had too much shark, and dont get me started about King Kong, waaay too much gorilla

I also saw this movie for the first time a couple of hours ago on AMC. This was a decent movie, meaning it had good, not great acting and the storyline was believable. Some of the drawbacks are the neverending dance rehearsal scenes and the miserable 80's soundtrack. John Travolta's character, Tony, was the same misguided and obnoxious person as in the previous film and once again it was nice to see New York City early 80's. Overall, this movie is repetitive, but enjoyable.
