Is this the film I am thinking of? (possible spoilers)

I think I saw this movie when I was a kid and I have a pretty vivid memory of some of the scenes. Can someone who has seen this film please tell me if the following descriptions take place? I want to know if I'm right.

When the kid first comes aboard the spacecraft, he witnesses a failed attempt to resuscitate one of the crew. I think a defibrillator is used.
The antagonist of the movie has green, scaly skin and when he gets shot at the end the actor playing him really hams it up and gives out a protracted death-rattle.
The spacecraft is controlled by a large red trackball type of device and the kid turns out to be skilled at using it for some reason.
(I'm not sure about this one) A man and a woman from the crew go down to a planet's surface and blow something up. They use a bazooka-like weapon which is fired by the woman using the man's shoulder to rest it on. They are facing each other when this happens and there is some chemistry between them.

Please put me out of my misery, this has been bugging me!

My god i love this film, yeah and the old man drops the kid off at the end as he is mortally wounded, this movie was ace.

Re: The hammy actor with the extended death rattle was I,Ray Stewart. However the death rattle was dubbed in later by a friend of the director. I was so shocked by the excessive explosive device in my costume that I was speechless. It was like being kicked in the chest by a mule. It was attached to a small bag of stage blood none of which showed in the shot. It was fun working with that gang even tho' my call was 4am to get the lizard face on.

The original design for the mask had no mouth. I asked Howard, with no mouth, how am I supposed to bit the head off a mouse? It was my favorite bit. We blacked out my teeth with wax and before each shot I took a hit of red food coloring to dye my tongue red.

That's great. Can you share anything else about the making of this movie. I know that it is cheesy, but I really like it. I actually prefer watching it over Battle Beyond The Stars.

I remember seeing this at the movies in 3D. It was cool because the ships and meteors would look like they were flying right past you. Much better then todays digital 3D which is more of just a effect.

I saw this in the theater when I was 10 with a friend of mine and we loved it, we kept talking about it for month's after it came out. I never saw it again until a few years ago and just watched it recently and I got to say I don't know what I was thinking lol it's really quite dumb. If I watch it with kid eyes it's pretty cool but I can't help but laugh at it quite a bit now in my adult years. It was definitely good times when I was 10.
