Seems like the kind of movie they'd not only make but insist grade school teachers show to their children to make sure they don't grow up to be nazi republican right wing domestic terrorist white supremacist alt-right conservatives. Or whatever word the corporations are encouraging their minions to call people who criticize their products.

No way. Even if you remove the ending twist, the movie has that weird upfront sleaziness you could only had gotten away with in the eighties. The kids trash talking to each other, the pedophile cook, all that other weird stuff surrounding the killings would not fly today. Unless maybe Andy Muschietti directed it?
