This movie freaking ruined me
I remember seeing this, I was under 10..
Had nightmares for years.

So was I. I didn't watch it again until I was 17 in a room with half a dozen friends. I couldn't watch that ending alone again.....ughhh (shudders)
"Cry me a river, build a damn bridge, and make your way across."
Although I highly enjoy this movie, there is no scary parts at all, except maybe when the a hole gets scalded. I would call this a comedy before a scary movie. On a scale from 1-10 on being scary it would be a 2, maybe; then again maybe I have seen way too many horror movies, the only kind I watch.

I wouldn't call this movie scary either.
Just super unnerving/creepy...
It's not bad at all until *that moment*
And even "that moment" wasn't all that scary, at least when viewed as an adult..actually funny. A good friend of mine does a perfect imitation of that part and it cracks me up every time.
shareWell not as an adult or even a teenager, but if he was under 10 at the time I don't see why it shouldn't have scared him
Movie isn't scary at all. It doesn't have disturbing parts, except the ending, which was ruined for me when Judy asked Angela why she didn't take shower with girls. At that point I knew that Angela is male. And it's not suspenful. You know who the killer is and the killings were creative, but too cheesy. Movie is a brainless fun.
You can't cheat Dheath, unless you're not Sidney, Gale and Dewey... :)
Only the final shot of this movie was epic, nothing else. As for knowing that Angela wasn't really a female, that's easily understood NOW because of the day and age we live in, with all these transsexuals and transvestites running amok lol. Back in '83 this wasn't common so it was more of a shocker. But even today it still manages to shock because of how the ending comes at the audience. It's timelessly creepy.
shareI agree...it wasn't common back then...especially to see that kind of an ending. I don't know if they could do this movie today...with the child molesting kitchen staff and angela character being a boy...to many cry baby's would say its not politically correct. Fo its time and even today...it's still one of the creepiest endings to a slasher/horror movie.
shareHorror films don't have to follow rules and certainly don't have to be politically correct.

I'm not disagreeing but I've heard directors...can't remember the names of them right now...they've said they couldn't get away with certain things because of the ratings board...I think some movies would be nc-17 and they don't want that rating. I'm guessing that's what they mean't in general.
shareI don't think NC-17 exists anymore. Not after Showgirls.
SIND SIE DAS ESSEN NEIN WIR SIND DER JÄGER
I laughed at that reply: 'with all these transsexuals and transvestites running amok...'

I was psychologically screwed up for years. I was eight. I would be hesitant to watch it now.
shareI watched this at 13 or so alone in my house knowing only that the ending was "good". I literally froze at the ending, really scared me. I'd say you have to be in the right set and setting for it to scare you. if you let it, it will. Don't kids see this film.
shareIt was scary! I love how new people watch a movie over thirty years old and say "it wasn't scary" just to belong in a kind of self-proclaimed "I'm a bad-ass" group. It's like saying "old cartoons aren't funny".
All movies have a certain "you had to have been there" magic to them that defines the moment.
Get a life.
Agreed - it's scary.
I didn't see it in '83 - saw it a couple years ago on youtube. I'm well over 18 and have seen many horror movies.
But that ending is...unnerving.
I had trouble sleeping.
