It was never explained in the film what happened to the biological mother of Peter and Angela. Did the gay lovers just adopt these children? Or perhaps Peter and Angela's father got divorced from the mom and got the kids in a custody battle? Maybe the mother died, or maybe the dad just left the mom to be with his lover and took the kids with him. Just thinking of all possible scenarios.

Ah well that would make the most sense then...perhaps after the mother died, the dad realized he was gay or was gay all along and found a male lover.

Edit: The Sleepaway Camp wiki says Angela and Peter's parents are divorced, but there's no mention of their mom anywhere on the site. So I guess we can more than likely assume she passed away sometime before the accident or something happened that made her incapable of reclaiming guardianship (like incarceration).
