One thing that puzzles me...

Tony makes business moves without his boss Frank's permission. Then Tony puts the moves on Frank's woman. And when Frank confronts him about it, Tony disrespects Frank in front of everyone. Then when Frank puts a hit on Tony, Tony feels surprised and disrespected. What did Tony expect was gonna happen after insulting a major crime boss? Frank had to have Tony whacked. He'd lose respect and control if he let that slide.

This movie is a remake of the 1932 movie, except the drug lord was selling booze during prohibition instead of dealing in coke. So this movie had to follow the script of the original

Exactly. I have to side with Frank on this one. After what happened to Frank and Mel, I felt Tony deserved what he got. Frank never tried to go for too much. He was smart. His only mistake, and a fatal one, was getting involved with Tony. Tony only brought on bad vibes wherever he went. That said, I do admire Tony's individuality, and morals for not harming women and kids, but he went too far regarding the Frank situation, going after his lady and trying to take more control of the business.
Of course, once the hit was put on, there was nothing that could be done. Frank could apologize like he did, but if he would have been let go, he would have had to do it again because Tony wouldn't have let that slide.

I've always wondered that too. I didn't mind Tony killing him, but it drove me nuts that he went on about "I stayed loyal to you Frank" after having went after his wife right in front of him.
