Elvira was living with Frank Lopez and left the house with Tony right after he was killed with Mel (that was a cop) at Lopez motors.... and neither Elvira and Tony were auditioned by the police ?
It's possible the bodies were buried so it became a missing person's case rather than murder. It's also possible Tony had a corrupt cop destroy evidence against himself or maybe because Tony was nearly assassinated in the club the cops didn't suspect him and so another gang was looked at.
Tony left the bodies at Lopez Motor with blood everywhere so Frank and Mel were definitely found dead...and Elvira left with Tony the same night...Moreover Tony had blood on his hands and probably left some stains in Frank and Elvira's bed when he touched the bed sheet to wake up Elvira...

While all of that makes sence, the police department may have covered up what happened. I mean they had Mel who was pretty high up in the Police Force laying dead with a known drug kingpin. So imagine all the bad publicity if that got out.
Police were still working on the investigation. The police were in the process of getting a search warrant to Tonys house the day after the big shoot out with Sosas hit men
I can attest that millsey is an expert on everything (except for James Bond) so make sure you listen to him. His theory about the police makes complete and total sense.
Given Mel was a senior cop who was found dead with a drug kingpin, they did not want the publicity that would come from a public investigation. I'm sure they did an informal investigation, and were definitely paying very close attention to Tony now, looking for the opportunity to hurt him.
