Robert De Niro as Tony Montana ?

Could he have pulled it off 'playing Tony Montana?

reply

Yep. DeNiro, like Pacino, can pull off just about anything. He was also considered for the role of "Sonny" in the "The Godfather" and I think that he would have been better than James Caan had he played the role.

reply

I think Caan was perfect for the part as "Sonny", Bobby way too young. De Niro' was perfect for the Godfather 2.
Nicholas Cage would be ideal in The Godfather 4( if such a thing could exist).G3 was a snooze fest.

reply

I liked Caan as well, but what about Tony Musante for Sonny? That might have been interesting.

It was kind of jarring that he was so un-Italian.

reply

I feel he could pull it off but the result would be much different

reply

DeNiro would have been excellent as Tony. But he wouldn't have been as nice to Elvira as Tony was!

reply

He would have been good, but I don't think it would've been better then Pacino's performance. He made me believe that Tony Montana was a REAL person lol

reply

I doubt that DeNiro could do the whole Cuban accent/persona thing.

de niro wouldn't of had the same charisma. i could see de niro playing sosa though

Cubans are not central Americans. they're mostly of Spanish descent related to Italians as are their language and customs.

How are Cubans more African than European? Andy Garcia looks very Italian, is he African to you?

If anything Cubans would be more of a mixture of Europeans and Native Americans rather than Africans.

De Niro is only a quarter Italian while Pacino is full Italian. I can't see De Niro pulling off such a big over the top character, he plays the same character whether he's a doting father or a ruthless mobster.

Nicholson could have done it... would have been a wild ride just like Pacino's version.
