"The emperor will show you the true nature of the force"

That's what Vader says to Luke. That word, 'nature', caught my ear. We say 'mother nature', not father nature.

The true mother of Vader was the dark side. Vader was born from 'her'.

That seems to be the metaphor here. As a contrast, we also hear Vader's true 'natural' name, Anakin, for the first time.

So already in 1983, two mothers were implied. One real (Anakin), the other one metaphorical (the dark side)

And maybe Lucas was thinking in these terms even before ROTJ. Why was the emperor played by a woman originally? Marjorie Eaton, who was 78 at the time, and old enough to be Vader's mother at the time (Vader was 46)

Later, the emperor was played by McDiarmid, who was 37 at the time, but who was made to look decrepit and 'possessed' (those yellow eyes)...maybe by this true (mother) nature.

What do you think?
