Girl in the Ferrari

Does anybody else dislike the character played by Christie Brinkley, "the girl in the Ferrari"? She was completely superfluous to the story and I just found her to be a pretty unappealing - kind of full of herself. And she was flirting with a man that she knew was married and had kids!

I dont think she was an admirable person, but i definitely felt she had a place in the movie. There are definitely gals like her. Its not about Clark being desirable, its about about her need to get attention. And Clark is a perfect target. Theres something about getting out on the open road that gets guys kind of feeling their oats, if you will. Hes feeling like a king leading his family across the country & her flirtations feed that.

And i think metaphorically she kind of represents the way we imagine all thats out there before us if we just get on the road and go. Basically the beauty of the ideal that tantalized Clark.

The charm of this movie is that it really is pretty uneven, to which even Harold Ramis attests. It's just a bunch of generally short sketches and set-ups loosely linked together by the holiday theme. Some are hilarious and some are less so. I think the "the girl in the Ferrari" falls into the latter. In the original test audience cut she played a significant part in the conclusion, but after a negative reaction by audiences, the present ending was thankfully included instead.🐭

Originally she was younger and flirting with Rusty. But that was changed, and Rusty was paired with a prostitute at the motel, whom we actually see on the balcony with him, during the pool scene. The storyline with her was apparently left to our imaginations, and what remained was so quick, it was little more than sub-liminal.

So, in all fairness, I'd say they didn't completely pull their punches about Rusty romantically,

Yep. I thought I was the only one who did!

She obviously didn't go through St Louis.

wasnt she a pool waitress?

reply

I think pool waitress was a white lie Clark told Rusty about why he was hanging out with her. She wasn't a pool waitress, she was just another guest at the hotel.

reply

it's even worse considering his wife was hotter than her

so many movies, so little time

reply

I agree, the wife was prettier!

reply

I would have to strongly disagree. Christie is gorgeous in this.

No one can dislike Christie Brinkley. And she needed to abandon her Total Gym to make more sequels so they would be 10 times better instead of bombs. It was the funniest part of the film when Clark and her were in the pool.
