Anybody hoping for a Krull bluray soon?

I really think there will be one nexye For it's 30th anniversary. I would love to hear a Alun Armstrong commentary. But then again they would probably transfer over the commentary from the director, and Ken Marshall, Lysette Anthony.

You know, I've been looking through the posts on this board and for someone that claims to dislike this film as much as you do you have managed to leave snide and patronizing comments on practically every post. I think that's weird behavior. I also think that you secretly love a bit of Krull but that's okay because I do too...

I thought for sure this would already be on bluray. hope they release it soon

I'm sure a blu-ray will come in time.

This movie is so beautifully photographed that it really deserves to be released in Blu-ray.

Hope it comes out soon, it's one if the few movies I enjoy not yet on BLU RAY.

Krull is airing in hi-def this Friday on Encore HD. I'm curious to see if a new transfer has been created for the film or if it is merely an upscale of the old DVD transfer. If a new transfer has been created, it at least gives me some hope that a Blu-ray release is not too far away. I'm guessing it will be released via Twilight Time whenever it is released since Columbia Pictures releases many of their catalog titles through them.

Hope u r right.

Well, I'm sorry to report that the HD version of Krull that aired on Encore HD was nothing more than an upscaled version of the ancient DVD transfer. It has the exact same print damage and color timing. That said, it still looks much better than trying to play the DVD on my Blu Ray player. Hopefully Columbia or Twilight Time will give it a proper restoration and release it soon.

I recall "Krull" being a bit subpar, financially underperforming when it was released nearly 30 years ago. I remember seeing it when it came out then again maybe a year or two later. I was very disappointed in the movie, though the early Liam Neeson performance was nice.

Is there really such a clamoring for this on Blu-Ray? I doubt there will be any new content based on the relative obscurity of the movie.

what a movie does financially has nothing to do with the fanbase and how fans do enjoy it. There are alot of movies that have been released on bluray that did alot worse. So i never do i still care what or how Krull did financially i still support the film. So yes i think it does deserve to come onto bluray :)

reply

What I meant by mentioning how the film did financially is that there is probably a perception that there's not much of a fanbase out there for "Krull" since it was not a success at the box office. However, I'll bet most people who have seen the movie didn't see it in a theater but saw it instead on VHS or cable, so that can be a tricky way to judge a film's viability.

I just haven't met anyone who holds the film in very high regard, so I'm surprised that there is a push for an extra-feature Blu-Ray.

yeah i think it would be pretty cool. i've bought the Princess Bride 25th anniversary one and i'm going to get the Willow 25th anniversary one too whenever i get around to it. there's definitely an audience for these movies. Dr Seuss probably has no appreciation for fantasy, but not everyone is open minded.

Strange I thought it was already out on Blu-Ray. I want a nice blu-ray copy really bad!

I check BluRay.com pretty much every day in the futile hope that Krull will be announced for Blu Ray. I suspect that it would be extremely expensive to remaster the film considering how poor the print that was used for the ancient DVD appeared to be in at the time. Even on the rare occasions that Krull has been shown in high definition on cable it is nothing more than an upscaled DVD version.

I also check bluray.com every single day in hopes this film gets a bluray release!definetly needs it! I think in time it will. There are a lot of titles out there that have gotten decent transfers! This one I'm sure will be a upscale for sure. The DVD however still is a great picture but until a bluray is released the DVD is fine. It also has a bunch of features
