James Horner's best score?

I'm probably a bit bias but I think this movie contains one of James Horner's best scores. Sure, much of the score contains queues from other soundtracks but as a complete score, it really is dynamic and fitting for a movie like Krull.

The score really does highlight what I like to call "The original James Horner". The style that allowed him to break out and become popular as a movie composer.

I agree next to his scores for Aliens and Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan his score for Krull is one of his best especially the moment when the fire mares take flight then it soars to perfection.

Yeah, a lot of Horner's scores from this era (From Battle Beyond the Stars to Aliens) sounded similar to one another.

I love the blend of romance and adventure in the Krull main titles. It manages to evoke both fantasy and sci-fi, just like the film itself. But I still think Wrath of Khan is Horner's best score top to bottom.

He went to Bespin Luke Skywalker, but he left Hand Solo

My favourite three of his are Battle Beyond the Stars, Star Trek (both II and III contain the same themes with some different compositions in each) and Krull. Some of his movies set in contemporary times are a bit strange like Commando with all those steel drums but again echoes of his early work come through into it, theres a passage of music as Matrix is making his way through the bad guys camp and its a mixture of his Klingon theme from Trek III and his Malmori theme from BBTS.

Well I just watched Star Trek 2 and 3 and I kept thinking that I was watching Aliens. When I watched Avatar last it was like I was watching Enemy at the Gates, Troy, Titanic, A Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13 all at same time. Perhaps by using unoriginal music this was just James Horner's way of expressing how unoriginal he thought the story was?

I've not heard many scores as derivative as this one. I know he struggles to be original at the best of times but this was verging on plagiarism. Williams and Goldsmith should have sued!

i will see this movie soon but i highly doubt the soundtrack will be as good as land before time. his best work by far and one of the best 5 soundtracks of all time i would say.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. Land Before Time, definitely one of the best.
