People waiting in line for....?

...what? What was that scene where there were people wall to wall waiting in several lines?

Here's a pic of the scene to which I'm referring:

Anyone know what that place is? Is that a subway? Concession stand? Immigration? Scratching my head here, please help...

reply

I don't know which one, but it is a race track.
With that big a crowd, it was either a long time ago, or was a big event
(Kentucky Derby?).
The betting windows are to the left as you look at it.

reply

Wow thanks, I would have never guessed racetrack. That mass of humanity is crowded like sardines just to gamble on horses? That's insane!

reply

Now that "mass of humanity" is seen at the Superbowl.

They're "crowded like sardines just to" watch American Football.

reply

True, but the Superbowl only happens once a year.

This looked like something that was repeating daily.

reply

I'd argue that the Kentucky Derby only happens once a year, also. Also, I'm not a big sports fan, but why all the hype for watching a football game featuring a team you've likely been rooting against for most of the year playing against a team you haven't even been following?

reply

To me, people packing in huge numbers just to watch the circuses.. I mean, sports, is just insanity.

Why would a balanced human being that knows many interesting goals to pursue, creative avenues to express something beautiful, methods of silencing the mind and simply observing and receiving the Cosmos need to watch some people on a field brutalize each other for some plastic object?

I just can't understand the fascination. Surely even the simplest computer and video games are more intersting than just watching some strangers perform repetitive, boring acts of stupidity on TV or inside a stadium of some sort?

Sports.. I just don't get it. Reading a boring book seems way more stimulating than drunkenly staring at some guy run around in a field behind a ball or vágina-shaped object, trying to make it go into some pre-designed area so the 'team' can 'score'.

What the !@%#* do people see in sports?

reply

lol op at your 'immigration' suggestion.

reply

It kind of reminded me of the immigration scene in The Godfather: Part II.

Six years later and I'm still not sure what that photo is all about.

Some hits turn up in Google Image search:

One hit is this Blu-Ray screen cap:

From here:

The Google Image search lists "New York" and "beach" as tags, so maybe those are clues...?

The mystery lives on...

EDIT: Correction. Looks like bucksix already said (6 years ago) that it is a racetrack.

Excuse me, where are you taking us? Mexico

reply

Based on the red & yellow color scheme, both in the building and some of the hats, I'd say this was shot at the old Meadowlands racetrack in East Rutherford New Jersey. It might have been shot when the track first hosted the Hambletonian in 1981, or some time between then and 1976 when the track first opened.

reply

Yes, I just now realized that bucksix gave a similar answer six years ago. Note to self: it's a racetrack.

btw, I hope you're enjoying your time on Mars.
