Worst movie ever made & biggest snob movie ever?

Always hated this movie.

Anybody else get the impression it was made by some rich connected(the screenwriter, not Scorcese) insider who laughs at people who are trying to make it in H-wood?

I mean hell look at Conan O'Brien -- DeNiro's character is funnier than that idiot.

Is this movie an example of insiders laughing at those who dream of making it big?

What's wrong with laughing at people who have juvenile fantasies of becoming celebrities, and yet who refuse to take any legitimate steps to achieving their aims? Rupert never bothered to try to work his way to fame by starting out as a local nightclub comic, just as so many wannabe "actors" never spent a moment practicing their supposed craft on the stage or through acting classes, and "musicians" who can't even play an instrument, sing in key, or read music. They just want fame for free because they feel entitled to it.

And unfortunately, our mass culture of reality shows and celebrities who become overnight hits for releasing sex tapes seems to encourage this type of behavior.

I agree that Rupert's act is really no worse than a lot of comedians who have made it big (I never understood Letterman's appeal). That's more a commentary on how low the entertainment industry has sunk than on Rupert's talent, however.

Worst movie ever made

Why does everyone here always speak in superlatives. If they don't like something, it's automatically "the worst movie ever made." If they like something, it's suddenly "the best movie ever." Somehow I doubt even you think that this is a lower quality film than Robot Monster or Plan Nine from Outer Space, or any Lifetime or USA Network movie of the week.

LOL sure as if "work" has anything to do with success in Hollywood....has FAR MORE to do with WHO YOU KNOW rather than what you know or what you do....

Quentin Tarantino knew somebody who knew somebody who knew Harvey Keitel....that's why he's where hes at now....just to give a random example....

Again -- this movie was about rich cynical a**holes who don't realize that H-wood is often called "the town built on crushed dreams" because so many sad desperate people go out there and end up getting killed or never achieving the stardom they seek...its largely nonsense....

Rupert and the crazy woman were just 2 random examples of the many people trying to muscle their way into an industry largely controlled by a few connected producers -- many of whom, though not all and probably not most -- are Jewish....

Nothing scares rich people more those who dare have the balls to muscle in on their rackets.....

That's true everywhere, not just Hollywood. If you know or are related to the "right" people, you can get a free ride in politics, the corporate world, academia, etc. Those that don't have the connections have to work

Other than Reservoir Dogs, I've either hated or ignored most of Tarantino's output anyway.

The crazy woman (Masha) wasn't trying to muscle her way into the entertainment industry. She was just an unhinged nutcase with a romantic/sexual fixation on a celebrity. That makes her even more ridiculous and pathetic than Rupert. Teenagers having a crush on a celebrity is understandable. When adults do it (and obsess over it) it's laughable and disturbing.

You may be onto something here. I've always wondered how such hideously untalented people as Adam Sandler and the repulsive Sarah Silverman had such bright careers.

The trouble is that people like Rupert aren't making legitimate attempts to muscle in on anyones racket, they just want a free ride. If Rupert were a genuinely talented person working the nightclub circuit who couldn't break into the big leagues because of a lack of connections, you'd have a point, but he wasn't. The fact that untalented people undeservedly get a free ride because of connections doesn't mean that untalented people without connections should also get a free ride. It simply means that those with the connections shouldn't have gotten it either, at least in a perfect world.

"Such hideously untalented people as Adam Sandler".

It doesn't really stand to reason that a "hideously untalented" actor could give a performance as outstanding as Sandler did in Punch Drunk Love - he's not only funny, but also gets some genuine poignancy out of his sad sack character. Granted, that's my ONLY reference point in regards to Sandler, but nevertheless it seems to suggest there's something in there, even if it doesn't otherwise show. Maybe it would if he worked more with talented filmmakers who know their way around actors, idk.

Wow. A couple of colossal morons on here. The OP and Edward D. V. Take your hate spewing somewhere else. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, gives a fuggin what you "hate". Grow up and go get your dirty diapers changed you childish crybabies.

You are missing the point of the movie - about someone who goes to extreme lengths to try and make it in show-biz. Remember that this is one of the hardest fields to make a living in. Movies about some random unknown making a swift, relatively painless rise to the top have been done often in the past. This movie deserves props for showing the struggles that many show-biz wanna-bes endure to try and make it.

I don't care how Quentin Tarantino got his start but I like his work. Adam Sandler had a few hits but a lot more misses. Conan O'Brien wrote some classic "Simpsons" so he is off the table.
