Friedkin threatened litigation against both Paramount and Universal this past year to get Sorcerer restored and re-released (licensed to Warner Bros and coming early next year) and Mann should take a hint. Also, both Sorcerer and The Keep have Tangerine Dream scores, so there you go...:)

I've seen the film again last month on french tv, nice widescreen print and it remains a so unique weird ambitious movie!
Mann is a genius director...it's funny that you're quoting Friedkin because the opening scene of THE KEEP has a SORCERER vibe to it, with the green/grey visuals and the trucks shot a bit like in SORCERER.

True. I've read that Mann had roadblocked the film being released on DVD in the past, not a good sign. If the studio hasn't maintained the cut footage in their vaults, I think Mann would be even less interested.

I try to understand the Director..probably this film was cut against his will and he does not keep nice memories,don't forget what happened to Wally Veevers,I think could be enough for don't consider it a nice experience to remember.

shareMichael Mann doesn't have the power to do that. Something is holding back Paramount from releasing The Keep on DVD/Blu-ray, but I doubt it's Mann.
shareYes he is, he did stop it from been put on dvd in 2004. Paramount was going to do so but Mann intervened and they didnt have the rights to the soundtrack.

Won't happpen. Friedkin proudly considers SORCERER his best work. Mann feels the polar opposite regarding THE KEEP.
shareI've heard over the years that Mann didn't like the cut (I guess the directors cut was over 3 hours). But, it's not like it would ruin his reputation if it were released. If they still have the footage it would be awesome to see the full cut.
