I'm happiest...in the saddle.

He surely is. His decisions are the reason for the day going bezerk. He want's to switch pumps, and that is why the Shark moves from the filtration pipes. Then, he has the lights on the undersea kingdom turned on, signaling the shark to the unsuspecting people inside. Both chaotic events all due to his choices, unrealized, of course, but they were.
shareNot really. They were obviously aiming for him to be like Larry from the original, and Peterson from the second film. People who come off like revenue is more important than public safety. But of course when sh/t hits the fan he does what he can to help, unlike those other two.

I agree with this description. He was hardly a villain, just a greedy businessman looking out for his business. It was the grand opening after all.
"I told the others, they didn't believe me. You're all doomed. You're all doomed."
I think Calvin's character is supposed to be villainous. More of a reluctant villain. He's mean and stressed but honestly he has his moments of compassion and humanity. I found Fitz-Royce to be more of a villain though. He also only cares about his bottom line and he comes off a lot more smug and unlikeable than Calvin.
Then there's Fitz-Royce's completely SICK death scene. That's the stuff of nightmares. The life line breaking, Jaws getting ahold of his flipper, then Fitz-Royce is inside the shark's mouth and so are we. It was all about sharp teeth and crunching and crushing, then probably stomach acids. How frightening lol. I so didn't need to see that but props to that scene cause it's definitely something I've never forgotten. He got it the worst and horror movie villains usually do.
Calvin was too hilarious to be the villain. It's like Fiddler from Roots hit the lotto and bought a water park.

So? I'll do the second act first..
It's worse than that....Fitzroyce wasn't even chewed up by the Shark because he was too deep in its mouth beyond the teeth.
...The Shark killed him by crushing him with it's Jaw muscles.
Not a villain, anymore than the Mayor in pt 1 was a villain....
Not a villain. There are a few moments that suggest he's not cold hearted. I feel like Gossett gave him more likeable qualities than he was probably meant to have. When Brody sarcastically informs him that everyone is okay after they catch the baby shark, he does eventually ask them in a way where it feels like he's not a completely evil person. Also, in his final moments in the film, he brings the unconscious staff member with him when he swims off so that can be interpreted as him actually looking out for someone besides himself. In the moment, he could have just as easily swam off and left the rest, though poor Fred doesn't fare so well.
