FitzRoyce was gay, right?
Now I haven't seen this movie since I was very young, but I remember when FitzRoyce died, his assistant Jack started crying, crying as if for a lost lover. Did I read that correctly? SOMETHING was going on there.

Personally I didn't think there was anything in the movie that implied that they had a homosexual relationship. I'm actually amazed at your disbelief that a straight guy could cry and mourn a male friend without having romantic feelings for him.
shareCome on, they were clearly gay.
shareyou only see what you wanna see
shareOr maybe you're in denial.
shareLOL, good comeback
shareWhy are you so threatened by the possibility of a homosexual couple in one of the most beloved movies in recent history?
sharelighten up; I was only joking,
and I don't see how you can make out of that, that I'm "so threatened";
geez, I have gay friends,I'm the last person that would be threatened by that.
But since this is not like a Stanley Kubrick movie, but just a low budget horror flick, I doubt any deeper meaning or hidden messages were put into the characters.
"most beloved movies in recent history"; now you're joking right?
Otherwise I think it's a matter of opinion.
Anyway, if you want to interpret their relationship as gay, be my guest and knock yourself out; we both live in the free world.
I just see them as good friends.
Take care.
Jaws 3-D is one of the most beloved movies in recent history? Ick!
You say you hadn't seen it since you were very young but are certain a guy's gay?
That nails it for me. The shark in Jaws 3 is homophobic.
Overman has a moustache - gay.
The two bickering coral poachers - clearly gay
The plummy English adeventurer whose mate cries at his demise- that makes him gay.
And Calvins "Neph - ew" as he puts it - must be gay since the pattern hsa been established by the other 3 victims. Either that or he was just curious.
N.B. Judging by the amount of lame "he's gay" chat (like the one I've just perpetrated) on IMDB boards, it would seem that everyone in the movies is gay and it's actuall easier to spot the gays by what they don't do than what they do do.

Im guessing by your username that you are clearly a wind up. If you actually thought that they were gay i guess it shows your lack of ability to read film characters. Plus the fact that one of the first scenes we see Fitzpatrick in he asks out the lead lady for a drink and dinner.
shareMaybe he was bi-curious.

Xclusive interview with Carl Gottlieb:
Some people from the gay community speak a lot about the “relationship” between Jack Tate & Philip FitzRoyce. Tell us the truth! NO GAY SUBTEXT WAS INTENDED. TATE WAS SIMPLY A LOYAL SUBORDINATE, A HELPER. IN THE ORIGINAL « JAWS, » QUINT HAD A MATE NAMED « HERSHEL, » WHO DISAPPEARED IN MY REWRITE (HE CAN BE SEEN IN A FEW SHOTS, WITH A LITTLE DOG). THIS WAS LIKE THAT. FITZROYCE WAS THE ARISTOCRATIC PUBLICITY-SAVVY « ARTISTE, » AND JACK TATE WAS THE COMMON WORKER WHO DID HIS GRUNT WORK. THEIR COMMON BOND IS THE RELATIONSHIIP OF MEN WHO HAVE FACED CHALLENGES AND HARDSHIPS TOGETHER AND WON.
I don't think so. At least not FitzRoyce. Earlier in the film he asked Kathryn out to dinner. I don't see why this conversation would've even been included if the writers intended FitzRoyce to be a homosexual, and it certainly wasn't a business dinner.
Jack probably wasn't gay either. I think the reason people wonder about their relationship are just reacting to how devastated he is when he learns FitzRoyce may have been killed. But friends and family would surely act the same way.

I'm with you.
I don't think Fitz-Royce was gay. He was skeezin' on Kay.
And although Jack seems like he's gay for Fitz-Royce, I think he's just anxious that he realizes this movie has nearly destroyed his career and he won't have another satisfying role until he dons the garb of Gurney Halleck in the Dune TV miniseries.

Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say YES!
He know French too.
shareIf he was gay, I'm sure Obama would have called to congratulate him
