Question on Renko's name. Spoiler, sort of.

Renko's name is Arkady. Why does Irina call him Arkasha? Is it some type of cultural thing? I never understood this, and being that I am not Russian, I haven't a clue. Any ideas?

I saw a poodle eating strawberry cheesecake with a fork the other day. He was using the salad fork, so I politely told him which one to use. He thanked me.

The plural of mouse is mice. The plural of goose is geese. Why is the plural of moose not meese?

Ah, thank you for that info. It always made me wonder.

I've wondered the same thing. Half the time he's called Arkady and the other half he's called Arkasha. I see there was an old deleted reply that seemed to have answered the question. Would have been nice to know what the reply was. So if anybody else knows the answer to this, please fill us in. Thanks!

I don't know what the reply was, but Arkasha is a diminutive of Arkady and is used in an affectionate manner.
Most of Slavic names have nicknames. One of the theories is that since we are very superstitious, in the old times parents never called their children by their given name in front of strangers because they were afraid of curses. This also goes for gods, Slaves never spoke about their gods in front of strangers.
