Tell me about it please! Same music, plot? Was it set in Pittsburgh?

same music, although obviously it was sung :o) such as gloria, man hunt, etc. and of course 'what a feeling'. some new songs as well, sung by the characters. the basic plot was the same, although there were some differences - i'll try and remember them!

(Sorry, i may be telling you too much - i don't know if you want to know the whole story!)

- jeanie is 'gloria' - fits nicely with the song!
- the old woman that alex always went to see (who i never worked out who she was supposed to be!) was alex's mum in the musical - she also died, but because she was shot in an attempted robbery of her laundry place she owned (by gloria's cousin, actually).
- said cousin, who i THINK is not in the film?! appears quite a lot, randomly - hes just out of jail i think, and needs money so appeals to alex and so on. its not until towards the end you realise his significance.
- the stripper club gloria ends up in isnt one, its just sleazy pole dancing (obviously due to the stage aspect :oD).
- gloria's boyfriend, the one who disappears off, doesnt exist.
- gloria's not an ice skater, she's a kind of rock-wannabe who plays guitar (this sets her apart from the other dancers).
- nick doesnt own the mill; his uncle, or some relative anyway, does. he turns up to help out, but because of the recession the mill ends up getting closed down anyway and he also loses his job along with the workers.
- nick's ex never appears, and so the stone-throwing incident never happens, neither does the 'i *beep* his brains out' scene.

that's all i can think of right now, i'll let you know if anything else springs to mind! im pretty sure its still set in pittsburgh - although i may be wrong about that (this is awful, was only 2 months ago!). i would definitely recommend it, its incredible - the scene after alex finds out about her mum is chilling; the music and the dancing gives you goosebumps! and the audition scene is just phenomenal, as soon as the song starts everyone starts screaming and clapping - the actress also does the exact dance from the film. the bra-removing scene is included as well, as is other little bits like the policeman in the street. she even wears the grey collarless top like jennifer beals does!

edit: oh i just remembered she does the water thing too during a dance, but shes wearing a swimming costume :o) and its randomly in the middle; at the end of the first half - i would imagine to give her time to dry LOL. but its a bit out of place, i think they just included it because it wouldnt be flashdance if they didnt!

sorry for long post!

I saw Flashdance musical in Cardiff tonight and thought it was great. I loved the dancing and some of the changes from the movie to the stage, such as the pole dancing club instead of strippers and the story of Hannah being Alex's mum - I always thought Hannah in the film was Alex's friend, as there were no sign of her parents I thought Hannah was some kind of guardian parent to Alex. The scene where Alex learns of her mum's death was chilling. In some ways I too enjoyed the show more than the film. They didn't do the drenching with water during the He's a Dream song, tho the choreography was true to that song as it was most of the score. The final audition scene was my fave of the musical, it was amazing :)

We missed the first 15 mins of the show tho so if you can tell me what we missed that would be great. I think the first scene we saw was when Alex's mum gave her the silver dress she made for Alex.

For anyone wanting to take children, the show does have some mild language, one slightly violent scene and lots of scantily-clad ladies!

I'm looking for the soundtrack now :)

they did the drenching with water when i saw it..although i dont know if it was the same song?

im trying to remember what happens at the beginning! lol seems so long ago now. i know it opens at the mill, with alex and those guys she works with. they sing a song about working there or something; and i also think thats when nick first turns up and introduces himself - or is that later on? i know he comes out with his uncle, but i cant remember if he actually talks to them or not at that point. if he does, she takes an instant dislike to him!

i think there was only one other scene before the dress one, which is when you first meet jimmy. alex sees him as she walks out of work, and they talk about him getting out of prison, and needing money etc. although now i DO think about it, that may be after she leaves the bar later on?

sorry i'm not much help! you didn't miss much anyway.

In March 2001, a Broadway musical version was proposed with new songs by Giorgio Moroder, but failed to materialize.
