yes i think laura branigan had a very nice and powerful voice and gloria is a great hit but do you know that it was not an original song?yes it is a spanish song. i heard it but i prefer lauras performance.i think it is not in the sound track because it is not original.
shareSorry, the original version of "Gloria" is italian, not spanish; wrote and sung in 1979 first time by Umberto Tozzi, one of the biggest italian pop singers and composers. It got that time so much success in italian pop-disco-cult that was replied for international public by Laura Branigan later in 1982.
Someone could maybe remember that the original song was been heard lately during the XX. Olympic Winter Games' opening cerimony (Turin 2006, old disco-music traks during Teams' parade).
Greetz.

Gloria, just like I Love Rock n Roll, was not on the soundtrack because the soundtrack was specifically produced for the Casablanca label by Giorgio Moroder. Those two songs were so popular then that it probably would have cost a pretty penny to include them on the soundtrack because they are both on different labels. For instance, Laura recorded Imagination specifically for the soundtrack, so she 'appears courtesy of Atlantic Records.' Casablanca would have had to pay royalties to include Gloria, which was recorded for Atlantic.
Ironically, some songs NOT recorded for the Footloose movie but used in them were included on the CD reissue a while back. So they very well could release a complete Flashdance soundtrack if they wanted to these days. Personally, I think that reissue should also include the 12" versions of What a Feelin' and Maniac!

I hate when this happens.
As a kid I watched G rated Flashdance (as shown on CBS) - recomended by Mom; always wondered same thing. Agree with earlier posts; also rights may not have been given as people didn't think movie would do as well as it did
shareI think the "Flashdance" soundtrack was the last big hit album on the Casablanca Records. The label was not as successful after founder Neil Bogart left. In 1986 PolyGram had folded Casablanca Records and some of its acts were moved over to Mercury Records, while other acts were dropped altogether.
Greatest song of the 80s?!? WTF!?! Its not even LBs best song.
What the $%*& is a Chinese Downhill?!?
