Cheating on the SATs

I was wondering whether cheating on the SATs was really such a big deal that somebody from the attorney general's office would go to investigate it as this film depicts it?
Is the film exaggerating or is this true?
Either way, it seems absurd that cheating on some test would be treated like an investigation into drug smuggling or tax evasion. Cheating is bad but going to such lengths to find out who may have done it in the past is just absurd in my opinion.

I wonder why Jonathan cheated since he got straight A's since kindergarten.

My opinion on this is he probably hadn't. He just told Skip that because he was trying to match what Skip told him he had done.

Did Skip tell his story first? I can't remember. If so then yeah maybe Jonathan was lying. But it would make the story better if he DID cheat, IMO.

Yes, Skip told his story first.

He really did cheat bc he was surprised and relieved later that Skip didn't tell on him when he could have. He prob cheated despite the A's bc some people like that who are so obsessed with getting good grades and getting into the school of their dreams will leave nothing to chance and would rather cheat to be sure they get what they want.

I agree. I think Skip told his grade history first and Jonathan lied about getting all As. But if Jonathan's grades were merely average, how did he and Skip end up at the same school?

I don't think he lied, he seemed too worried about being found out to have lied.
