Holds up very well

"A Christmas Story" was the last solid Christmas classic. It's as good now as it was four decades ago. The story, direction, acting, casting, cinematography, settings, and music are perfect.

I agree that it's a classic Christmas film but not that it's the last of its kind. I would also add Christmas Vacation and Elf to the Christmas classics list.

But yes, A Christmas Story is a great film that is still fun to watch today. Every boy should have a Red Ryder. I owned one when I was about Ralphie's age.

I will have to rewatch Elf. The only time i saw it was in college and i don't remember it being very good.

I think it's great! My dad really likes it, too. I would actually say it's the only truly CLASSIC Christmas film of the 21st century. There have been some others that were good but none that I would say rise to the level of being a classic.

Of course you have to have some appreciation for Will Ferrell and his brand of performance to enjoy it.

Elf is the most polarizing movie I can remember in recent history. Lots of people like it.

I'm on the side where I found it tough to get through first viewing, and to me as a repeat it's unwatchable.

Me too.

Probably equally as polarizing (and this is a remake so there's that) is the Depp version of Wonka.

I actually like both the original which I grew up with and the Depp version much to my own surprise, but a lot of people really hate it.

I know "Elf" and "Christmas Vacation" are popular, but they don't have the quality to be regarded as classics. "A Christmas Story" does.

You may have some supporters in that camp when it comes to Elf, but I suspect you would find not more than a handful of people who would agree with you regarding Christmas Vacation. I think most would say it's a stone cold Christmas classic.

A favorite!

Merry Christmas!
