More of a twisted love story than horror

I've always seen this movie as a twisted love story and drama rather than a horror story. Arnie falling in love with Christine, Christine playing old love songs to Arnie, Arnie giving his little speech about love for Christine, etc. Maybe this was a reason why Christine wasn't initially very highly regarded among fans of Carpenter. People expected horror and suspense from him at that point of his career.

You could be right. I'm not a big fan of Carpenter but enjoy certain movies/stories as they come. I thought this was a pretty good and definitely a memorable story.

I always thought it was weird that this movie was classified as a horror movie, even when I was a kid. I see it as a revenge movie, like Death Wish (1974).
