Why did Arnie's mom blame Dennis for buying that car?

He's his friend not his mother. It was Arnie's choice. What exactly was she expecting from him?

Probably out of desperation. She sees her nice but nerdy son turn into a rebellious *beep* and has to blame someone.

I never liked that she was so mad about it. She and Arnie's dad should have gone outside and looked at the car together.

she knew Arnie looked up to him, he was a bit of a protector as you can see by his interactions with their schoolmates
