Palio in Siena
Can someone tell me in what DVD in the series I would find the bareback horse race scenes that are part of the Palio pagentry in Siena? The first disk or the second one?

I believe those scenes are in Part One. They occur before Nathalie and Byron take their trip to Warsaw. Nathalie delays her trip to Warsaw in order to help Aaron write the story on the Palio for Life Magazine.
shareThanks for the tip. Tha Palio scene made such an impact on me 25 years ago that I vowed, once I was retired, that I would see it first-hand. I am, in fact, signed up for six weeks of language classes in Siena, scheduled to coincide with the two Palio events (July 2 and August 16) and have already engaged a ring-side seat for $450!!!
shareHave an enjoyable trip.
I was wondering if it was as wild and rowdy as portrayed in the Winds of War. It showed fights breaking out, and Aaron was almost killed by a runaway horse. They also mentioned that the horses were drugged, so it seemed like quite the free-for-all.
It's pretty crazy but some of that stuff in the miniseries was clearly staged. For example, a single horse in the street would never stampede all those people after a race. In fact the horse would have trouble getting anywhere. Also, those scenes of jockey-on-jockey violence appear to have been filmed separately and dropped in (although the main race footage looks legitimate).
That open violence that is shown post-race is pretty rare these days--I've been at four Palios and never seen anything like it, although I have seen photos of jockeys being attacked.
