Question for all who have seen both movies and/or read books

Okay, first off, let me explain the reason I'm asking the question. I do a lot of research on WWII history, and I was reading a biography on Adolph Eichmann recently, and it said that Jews who had converted to Cathlocism were spared from being deported because the Church fought for them. Jews who hadn't converted they usually didn't waste their time on. My question is this Do you think if Aaron had used his papers, he could have avoided the whole mess? If so, what about Natalie? Would it have mattered that she had married a Christian? I'm not looking for concrete answers, just your opinion on the matter.

I got the impression that even if Aaron had used his conversion, it wouldn't have mattered. He was known as being a Jewish writer and I got the feeling that if he had claimed Catholicism, the Nazis wouldn't have believed it, even with documented proof.

It was kind of surprising that Natalie was taken, in my opinion. I never learned about WWII in school because we were too busy being taught the explorers. I don't know if it was true that if Jewish Americans were over in Europe if they were taken by the Nazis even with an American passport. I would think that would have made it a bigger world incident. Unfortunately, with Natalie marrying Byron in Portugal, she didn't have the opportunity to change her passport to her married name and claim Christianity as her religion. If they had married in the U.S., it would have been an entirely different story.

Just my thoughts!
