RAF plane landed in France or the UK?

At the scene where Pug goes with those RAF guys to bomb Berlin, one of the guys says something like "I hope you speak French" and then the episode ends. I thought it inferred that they would make an emergency landing in France. In the next episode, Pug is back in London and no explanation was done whether he landed in France or not. He just tells Pam about how him and the pilots were drinking in the debriefing. Was there somewhere I missed where he explains how they made it back? Thanks..

The RAF pilot was just preparing Victor in case they didn't make it back to England. They didn't know if the engine was going to totally quit on them or not. The plane made it back. The book was so long I think Wouk didn't go into detail on this point as the reader would assume they made it back to England, he was debriefed and make it back to his apartment where Pamela was waiting to pounce on him.
