he predicted that using American escorts in the convoy would prevent the Germans from attacking
As a military adviser, it was his job to offer a scenario. He offered both.
he accurately predicted that the UK would win the Battle of Britain
That was General Tillet, not Pug.
the Japs would attack the US
He wasn't the only person in that time period to predict it. What would have been impressive, though, was had he said "The Japanese will attack Pearl Harbor because..." We had cut off their oil supply and negotiations were stalled. Even observers of the period noted it was only a matter of time. The fact that we, as Americans, failed to set up nets around our bases for subs and keep a watch out for enemy activity was our fault. We allowed it to happen.
of course Wouk was writing from hindsight but it cheapens both the book and this show- its totally pretentious.
And how many books have you read by current writers that don't do the same thing? In W.E.B. Griffin's series The Corps, he has a corporal who suddenly gets put into the middle of the action because he was in the right place at the right time. This character, Ken McCoy, speaks 3 languages, and after he saves the life of a Captain and a Lieutenant, he's shipped off to OCS. Later, he meets the son of a millionaire who had served in WWI. They become best buds, and now former Corporal McCoy (now Lieutenant), is being used for espionage in the OSS. That character finds himself in the middle of Pearl Harbor, the assault on Batan, Guadalcanal, and in later books major assaults during the Korean Conflict.
That's just one example. I could go on. If you don't enjoy fiction, then stay away from it and watch documentaries or movies about real life people.
