Henry family based on Kennedy clan?

Byron/JFK: A callow youth who exhibits surprising ability during WWII exploits including a tour of central Europe escaping the day of the German invasion of Poland and naval action in the Pacific.

Warren/Joe Jr.: Responsible older son who carries his family's expectations until his death as a naval aviator in WWII.

Presumably Pug is a corrective alternate version of isolationist Joe Sr.

I don't remember reading that Wouk based them on the Kennedys. I know he wanted to have a large enough family that he could cover the entire war from every conceivable angle (a better way, I think, would have been to have one of the children in the Army), but when when he realized the family was not enough, he created the character of Armin von Roon to give the German perspective.
